A Faith Milestone for Ari

A Faith Milestone for Ari

In Georgia, thousands of children are in need of a supportive, stable home where they can be guided through important milestones—to reach their full potential. Wellroot Family Services connects these children with nurturing foster families and works with foster families to ensure they have the proper training and support every step of the way. Wellroot Case Manager, Brittany Berto, recounts the following story of Arielle, a young teen girl placed in a Wellroot Foster Home.

Arielle moved in with the Newton family about a year ago. The Newtons, like all Wellroot foster families, made it their primary job to make sure that Ari felt safe and welcomed. Among other things, they began to bring Arielle to church with them on Sundays. She quickly settled in at Foundation Church and became involved with the ministry.

Over the next several months, Arielle began to develop a deeper relationship with Christ and knew in her heart that she wanted to be baptized. She expressed this wish to the Newtons, as well as to me, her case manager. The Newtons and Wellroot went to work getting the necessary permissions. When a child is in foster care, their biological parents retain certain rights, and appropriate permissions must be in place. Over the next couple of weeks, they were able to get permission from her birth mother for Arielle to be baptized.

Arielle was baptized on Sunday, April 17th, 2021, at Foundation Church in Newnan, Georgia.

The Newtons invited her birth mother and maternal family and mentors, coaches, & me to be present. The congregation and those who love Ari the most watched her make the most significant decision of her life thus far. There was not a dry eye inside of the congregation.

Arielle is a perfect example of God’s unfailing love. And that our Lord is so faithful in His promises. Four days after her baptism, the Newtons became legal guardians of Ari! She will continue her family and faith journey with the Newtons by her side.

Galatians 3:26-27

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
