This #GivingTuesday, #GiveHome to moms like Kiara

Wellroot’s Family Housing program is a lifeline for many families at imminent risk of homelessness. Families accepted into our program are serious about leveraging the support we offer and gaining the skills needed to ensure their long-term sustainability upon completion of our program. We provide housing and financial assistance to these families, removing the barrier of homelessness by helping them move toward self-sufficiency. We offer courses in parenting, financial management, career coaching, and personal development, among others, and help with continuing education.

This program can only happen thanks to generous supporters like YOU! When you give to Wellroot, you #GiveHome to children, teens, and families right here in Georgia, families like Kiara and her two girls.

Late in 2019, we received an application for our Family Housing Program from Kiara, a single mom facing homelessness. With no job and no network of support, she was out of options; if a housing program didn’t accept them, she would soon have to start living in her car with her two children. This is where you stepped in as a supporter of Wellroot and gave HOME to Kiara and her girls. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, Kiara was approved for our Family Housing program. Even though she still had no real hope for the future, Kiara opened up to the Wellroot staff, who became her family. After getting settled into her new home, Tayeka, her case manager, developed an aggressive case plan that included savings, employment, debt reduction, and parenting skills.

At the start of 2020, Kiara completed a first-time homebuyers program offered through one of Wellroot’s partner agencies. Then, COVID happened. Kiara was laid off from her job and sent back to square one, but despite her being ready to give up, Wellroot wasn’t prepared to give up on her. With encouragement from her support team, she stayed committed to the many classes offered weekly to Wellroot program participants. Even as the world shut down, Kiara stayed committed. Eventually, she found a new full-time job and continued to save at every opportunity.

In July of 2021, this Kiara successfully transitioned from our program to her own apartment with over $11,000 in savings. Even though she had graduated from Wellroot’s program, the staff continued to remain in contact with Kiara and encouraged her through her journey. She continued to work with Tayeka on additional goals, including homeownership.

On September 30, 2021 two months after transitioning from our program Kiara bought her first HOME! This holiday season, Kiara and her daughters are spending their first Thanksgiving and Christmas in their own home, thanks to you!
