Fostering Success Tax Credit

Apply Today Before Funds Run Out!

Meet Anwar

Meet Anwar, a determined young man who entered foster care after losing his father and brother at age 13. Through Wellroot Family Services and the Fostering Success Act, he found stability and support. Anwar earned his GED, started working, and is now attending college, focused on building a bright, independent future.

Redirect Your State Taxes to Change a Life

In Georgia, nearly 700 youth exit foster care and are left to fend for themselves each year. Leaving foster care without support carries lifelong consequences. However, thanks to the Fostering Success Tax Credit, also known as the Qualified Foster Child Donation Credit, your tax dollars can now bring new hope for youth transitioning from foster care.

As a Georgia taxpayer, you can redirect your taxes to Wellroot to help prevent poverty and homelessness for youth transitioning out of the foster care system. With an initial annual cap of $30 million, donations received through the program will support our Transitional Living Program, which provides guidance and support for these young adults. When you participate, you receive a 100% tax credit to your state income tax bill for your contribution.

How Does the Tax Credit Work?
Hear from our CEO, Allison Ashe, on the importance of the Fostering Success Tax Credit and how it works for Georgia individuals and businesses.

Applying is Easy!

Georgia taxpayers can redirect their state taxes to support young adults aging out of foster care—at no net cost. Your contribution helps provide stable housing, educational support, and life skills training during a pivotal time in their lives. To participate in the Fostering Success Tax Credit, you must apply and be pre-approved by the Georgia Department of Revenue before making your donation.

When you’re ready to apply, choose one of two options:

I want to apply on my own.

This option allows you to apply directly through the Georgia Tax Center. You’ll need to create an account with the Georgia Tax Center first and then complete the state application.

Preapproval is required BEFORE you donate. Log in to create an account at the Georgia Tax Center website (www.gtc.dor.ga.gov) or contact Associate Director of Development Alex Bevel Jones at ajones@wellroot.org for assistance.
