“God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called.” This truth has guided Rebecca and Aaron Tucker’s incredible journey of fostering and adopting eight-year-old Collins into their family.
Rebecca and Aaron’s foster care experience began in 2019 after an information session at their church inspired them to answer God’s call. They opened their home, and over the next five years, many children found a place of belonging under their care until they were reunified with their birth parents.
In 2023 the Tuckers informed their Wellroot caseworker, Shelby, that they were considering closing their home to foster placements, but their hearts were open to adopting.
“We wanted a stable sibling relationship for our daughter Bea, who is now four,” the Tuckers explained.
Around that time, Shelby was diligently searching for a family for a young boy who had been in foster care for four years. Finding a family proved challenging due to his specific needs, but Shelby was sure she found the perfect match in the Tucker family.
When they first met Collins, the connection was instant! They began fostering in December 2023 and started the adoption process in June 2024.
“Collins and Bea instantly bonded. Watching how silly and gentle he was with her made the decision so easy. We knew his heart was so much more than just a list of needs and behaviors,” said Rebecca.
As Collins prepared for adoption, he decided to choose a new name to mark his latest chapter. His love of space inspired him to pick “Collins,” after astronaut Michael Collins, who piloted Apollo 11 to the moon.
The Tucker family’s path from foster care to adoption wasn’t always easy, but with the support of a close-knit community of family, friends, and church members, as well as the guidance of Wellroot Family Services, the Tuckers felt equipped to keep saying “Yes!” Wellroot’s training, resources, and dedicated caseworker helped the Tuckers navigate their journey to Collins, who has filled their lives with more love than they could have ever imagined.
Healing takes many forms. The best ones involve family.
This November, the Tuckers celebrate a beautiful milestone for National Adoption Month. Adopting Collins was not just about growing their family—it was about answering a call to provide stability, love, and belonging to a child in need.

It takes a tremendous amount of courage, faith and trust for a person to become a foster parent. Wellroot provides foster parents with intensive support through their assigned Foster Care Worker, our 24/7 on-call system, access to clothing, diapers, school supplies and baby equipment, and supplmemental financial support through our incidental fund for enrichment for the children in their care.
