Atlanta, Ga. – Wellroot President and CEO, The Reverend Hal Jones, has been appointed to the Safe Harbor for Sexually Exploited Children Fund (“the Fund”) by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan in recognition for his work with Georgia’s most vulnerable children. The Lt. Governor made the announcement on August 20, 2019 appointing Rev. Jones and Judith Fouts to the Fund.

Approved by voters in 2016, the Fund is used solely for the purposes of providing restorative services to child victims of sex trafficking. The funds come from two sources: additional penalties on convicted sex traffickers and a new fee on the adult entertainment industry. It is estimated that the Safe Harbor Fund provides as much as $2 million annually in funding dedicated to providing restorative services and support to the child victims of sex trafficking who are able to escape truly horrific circumstances and abuse.

Funds are distributed by an appointed commission directly to the agencies, faith-based organizations, and non-profits who provide the safe housing, trauma counseling,  medical treatment, and other resources these children desperately need.

“I feel a deep, personal responsibility to protect every single Georgia child to the best of my ability,” Duncan said. “There is no greater sorrow than learning someone has maliciously preyed upon our youth. I have faith that Judith Fouts and Hal Jones will work hard to serve Georgia’s human trafficking victims by providing the best care and support possible. I thank them for their commitment to serve some of our most vulnerable citizens.”
