Functional Family Therapy

“Working with my mom and our therapist together, I finally feel heard.”

-Matthew, age 13

What is FFT?

Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an evidenced-based treatment program designed for families who need help working through complex behavioral and mental health challenges or substance abuse. FFT aims to engage each family member and ensure everyone feels heard and supported.

FFT is an intense yet short-term program that occurs in 16 to 24 family sessions over four to six months.

Is FFT right for my family? Explore the goals of FFT:

  • Help your family understand the behavior of your child or teenager while being actively involved in promoting a functional and stable family setting to stabilize and help improve mental health issues, crises, and relapse
  • Provide individuals and their families with the skills to manage mental health concerns to reduce hospitalizations and out-of-home placements
  • Tackle academic struggles by addressing underlying issues
  • Break the cycle of violence through targeted interventions

How it Works

Once a family enters the program, they are matched with a therapist who partners with them to set goals for positive change. Therapists help each family member address problems, alleviate situations on their own, and strengthen family bond.
