Wellroot Family Services’ annual fundraising gala, This is Home, raised $387,000 in crucial funds to support the mission of restoring children and families from trauma. Its success made a meaningful difference, thanks to the generous support of our presenting sponsor, the Liz Blake Giving Fund, and the dedicated leadership of event chairs Stephanie Stuckey and Bill Vogel.
Throughout the evening, inspiring stories from youth, foster families, residents, and clients highlighted each individual’s determination to improve their lives. Anwar, a young man transitioning out of foster care into Wellroot’s Transitional Living Program (TLP), shared his journey of obtaining his GED and securing a job, thanks to the support and encouragement he received.
In front of distinguished guests, current and former Wellroot residents and families, and board members, president and CEO Allison Ashe promised Shanqual, a recent Family Housing program graduate, that Wellroot Family Services would cover the remaining fees for her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license. This support will help Shanqual, who has overcome homelessness, to start her career.
“Her story is proof that when you provide a family with stability, support, and a place to call home, transformation is possible,” said Allison as she embraced Shanqual.
Stories from families like Melissa, who graduated from the Functional Family Therapy program, and the 2024 Foster Parent of the Year, Anna Whitehouse, are a testament to our community’s unwavering support that helps close the opportunity gap and allows healing to begin.
One of the most moving moments wasn’t part of the evening’s program. Completely unprompted, Anwar, accompanied by Kayla, Jayanna, and Leticia, young adults in Wellroot’s residential programs, walked to the stage. They stood together to share their gratitude – in their own words.
Their individual “thank you’s” reminded us why this work matters so deeply. Everyone who gives, attends, supports, or shares in Wellroot’s mission helps young people find their voice, build confidence, and create a future filled with possibility.
A surprise performance by “The Three Waiters” delighted guests during dinner, as disguised opera singers, blending in as servers, revealed their true identities and serenaded the room.
“It was a night where our community came together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Georgia’s children and families,” said Allison Ashe, Wellroot Family Services’ president and CEO. “Funds raised during our This is Home gala will help us provide essential services, support, and resources to those in need.”
As we reflect on this special evening and the impact of our community, we are reminded that those we serve are a part of a much larger, more wonderful family. We are deeply grateful for the community’s support and participation in the This is Home gala.
